multiple sclerOsis awareness
It was our pleasure and honor to support the Viennese Multiple Sclerosis Association on the World Multiple Sclerosis Day!
Multiple sclerosis, or MS for short, is a chronic disease of the central nervous system. Its course varies greatly from person to person and is often invisible to others. This is precisely what makes daily life with MS particularly challenging. The MS Association Vienna is committed to raising awareness and fostering understanding of this “invisible” disease. Around World MS Day, creative approaches are therefore being used to create a space where people with and without MS can get creative together. With the support of street artist Manuel Skirl, the MS Gesellschaft Vienna organized two workshops where participants will get creative together, spray paint together, and create a work of art in a public space.
About Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system that affects approximately 14,000 people in Austria. The disease usually develops in young adulthood, between the ages of 20 and 40, and its course varies greatly from person to person. Women are affected about three times as often as men.
About the MS Gesellschaft Vienna
For over 60 years, the MS Gesellschaft Vienna has been a central point of contact for people with multiple sclerosis and their families in Vienna. As a nonprofit organization with over 1,000 members, they provide support through all stages of the disease, offering personalized, competent, and independent assistance.
Focus areas:
● Information, social counseling, and community
● Psychotherapy and support in daily life
● Self-help groups and exercise programs
● Public relations and advocacy
The goal is to enable a self-determined life with MS. To this end, MS Gesellschaft offers direct support while simultaneously advocating publicly for greater understanding, better care, and the rights of people with MS. Their work is carried out by an interdisciplinary team and dedicated volunteers and is made possible through donations, grants, and membership dues.
