In 2026, the Calle Libre Festival is dedicated to the theme “IN EQUALITY” — a multifaceted exploration of social, cultural, economic, gender-based, and socio-political inequalities.
The title is intentionally layered with meaning. It points to inequality as a lived global reality, while simultaneously evoking “in equality” — the fundamental equality that connects us as human beings. This duality forms the conceptual core of the festival: a tension between division and unity, injustice and dignity, exclusion and belonging.

As part of the festival opening, we will present the new book “Masters of Street Art” together with photographer Michael Harker and curator Jakob Kattner, who wrote the book’s foreword.
In addition, Nicholas Platzer will reflect on 20 years of his street art gallery Inoperable, offering insights into two decades of exhibition-making and commitment to urban contemporary art.

Since 2014, the CALLE LIBRE Festival has brought colour and art to the streets of Vienna. Every year, artists transform façades and public spaces, bringing creativity into everyday urban life. And of course, celebration is part of it too. This year, tango joins the programme — and we warmly invite everyone to both the beginner’s workshop and the milonga.
What connects CALLE LIBRE and TANGO EN LA CALLE is a shared joy in diversity, artistic expression, and human connection, as well as the creation of social spaces built on respect and exchange.
We want to dance in public space — because public space is not only for transit and consumption, but also for pleasure, encounter, and cultural practices that bring people together.

As part of Vienna Pride, the Calle Libre Festival invites you to the Block Party at Gleis 19, opening urban space for encounters, art, and shared visions.
A Viennese collective “A PARTY CALLED JACK” will create a music program to celebrate the district’s artworks and provide a live soundtrack to the festival.

On-site, visitors can participate in workshops, like our COME BY & TRY spray workshop or print their own Ikea bag with screen printers LEAP ART.

Street Art Workshops.
In cooperation with various street artists, the festival offers a series of hands-on workshops for young people, school classes, and local residents. Participants gain insight into the background and techniques of street art, learning directly from professional artists and working together on wall pieces using spray paint.
Each workshop encourages participants to create individual motifs that engage with the festival theme of transformation, translating personal perspectives into collective visual statements.

On 28 May 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, we invite you to the IKEA x Calle Libre workshop on the rooftop of IKEA Wien Westbahnhof.
Together with the screen-printing experts from LEAP Artprints, you’ll create your very own personalized IKEA bag featuring exclusive Calle Libre artwork by Coins. Learn the basics of screen printing, choose your favorite colors, and get creative yourself!

STREET DESIGN WORKSHOP

What is the potential of public space and the distribution of urban land for a life in equality? At the Street Design Workshop in Döbling, we will develop shared visions for a more equitable public space . We'll explore how streets can become liveable, green neighborhoods, hear local activists’ perspectives on the status quo – and discuss together what could change. Finally, we will take the chance to redesign a street ourselves. Guest initiative: Radeln in Döbling.

Radeln in Döbling is a non-partisan cycling initiative in the district under the name "Cycling in Döbling". Here, dedicated cyclists in the district can find people who want to share their passion for cycling and increase the share of bicycle traffic.

Participants of our tours have the opportunity to explore an alternative Vienna, discovering the city beyond schnitzel, the Prater, and the Spanish Riding School. Urban Art Guided Tours showcase murals created during Calle Libre festivals and provide insights into the artists and their motifs as well as this year’s focal point — the Muthgasse urban development area — offering a unique perspective that cannot be found in typical guidebooks.
