REGENERATION

The concept of regeneration draws on the importance of going beyond sustainability and into the regeneration of people, communities, and entire ecosystems. We want to understand how art can have the power to highlight both the fragility and beauty of nature, our communities, and the individuals that co-create those communities.

Street art, in particular, has always had a set thought process: from questioning to criticizing and highlighting grievances on a wide variety of socially relevant issues. Through artistic interpretation, we want to draw attention to the fact that environmental protection and ecosystem restoration should start being relevant to all of us. It is not enough to be sustainable; now we must look at regeneration.

The Grüne Mitte urban development project at the former Nordwestbahnhof provides the perfect backdrop for our plan. Starting in 2024, a new district will be built on the site of Vienna's freight station Nordwestbahnhof. Instead of polluting the environment with freight traffic, a hub for living and working as well as culture, education, but also recreation and open space will be created here. As Calle Libre, we want to use this disused area before construction begins to express our vision but above all the vision of international artists of a green, ecologically and socially sustainable future.
