main library in vienna

The Main Library on Gürtel received a makeover for its 20th birthday. The artist duo Käthe Löffelmann and Linda Steiner gave the concrete pillars of the library a fresh look.

Inspired by the terracotta tones of the library facade and the sky above, the pillars around the passage between Kandlgasse in the 7th district and Sorbaitgasse in the 15th district have been shining in earthy tones and blue since this week. The motifs on the pillars reflect what is happening inside the library: it's all about books, reading, and the library as an open space for everyone. The project was carried out by Calle Libre with financial support from the cultural commissions of the 7th and 15th districts.
