kaiserschild - walls for vision

The second design on the ‘Kaiserschild - Walls of Vision’ project was created in Vienna, on the wall of the Viennabase19 student residence in the 19th district. It takes inspiration from a painting called "Bauerntaverne" by the Dutch artist David Teniers the Younger. This painting is famous for showing scenes of everyday life in Flanders. It's usually on display at the Alte Galerie of the Universalmuseum Joanneum, thanks to a loan from the Kaiserschild Foundation.

Crafted by street artists Linda Steiner and PerkUp, this updated artwork showcases their unique talents. Linda Steiner is known for her skill in drawing people of all shapes, colors, and sizes. She made the main characters of Teniers' painting look more modern while still keeping them friendly. PerkUp, on the other hand, creates art by putting together different pictures or drawings, like a big puzzle. In this version, PerkUp added things like jugs and pots from the original painting, making them more noticeable. They also included some of Teniers' background characters in the upper part of the painting, as a way to pay tribute to the past.

This fresh take on the artwork blends old and new elements, showing how art can bridge different time periods.
